Milwaukee introduced new tape measure models years ago. I was thrilled, but I was disappointed that they didn’t offer self-locking models. Except for my keychain model, which is not yet available in self-locking keychain models, I only use self-locking tape measures. Milwaukee has just announced new Auto-Lock tape measures that are self-locking tape measures. For now they will be available in 4.9m, 7.6m, 5m/4.9m, 8m/7.9m sizes.
The new Milwaukee Tape Measures with Auto Lock work just like the name suggests and lock automatically when extended. This makes it much simpler for me as I don’t have to fiddle with the locking button when I extend the tape. Simple enough, the onboard button retracts your tape when you’re done.
Their proprietary Nylon Bond Blade Protection is used on the blade. The body has a 5-point reinforced frame to protect against drops. Although the blade hook isn’t the biggest, it is larger than standard tapes. It even has tips on one side so that you can hook from both the front and back.
They need a new keychain model that has an auto-lock.
