2 New Makita 18V X2 36V Backpack Vacuums XCV09 & XCV17

Makita announces two new cordless backpack vacuums, the XCV09 and the XCV17 models.

Both cordless backpack vacuums are part of their 18V LXT system however they are also X2 power tools which means they operate using two 18V batteries at a time and are actually 36 volt tools. They are very similar. The XCV09 model has a 1/9 Liters capacity, while the XCV17 model has a 7 Litre capacity. Actual rated capacities may be less than claimed. Other than their size, they are very similar in shape and features while the XCV09 is predominantly blue while the XCV17 is predominantly white in color. Each features a flexible hose with aluminum telescoping extension wand, crevice nozzle and 28 cm universal floor nozzle along with a HEPA filter. Both models have similar performance, but the XCV09 has 70 CFM while the XCV17 has a slightly higher 78. Also the weight is different on both models, the smaller XCV09 comes in at 45 kg with two 5.0 batteries and the XCV17 comes in at 7 kg with two 6.0 ah batteries.

The units can be purchased as either a baretool, or as a complete kit. However, each model comes with different batteries. For example the XCV09 as a kit XCV09PT comes bundled with two 5.0 ah batteries while the XCV17PT comes with two 6.0 batteries. The XCV09 model’s 5.0ah batteries can be used for up to 116 minutes, while the XCV17PT comes with two 6.0 batteries. It is claimed that the XCV17 model can run up to 139 minutes using 6.0 batteries. Manufacturers usually claim best runtimes on lowest speeds so dont expect to get these runtimes on the highest speed setting and to expect less runtime when going full speed. Makita claims the XCV17 model has better runtime however it seems their claim is based on the fact that that model in kit form has larger batteries and thus why it should get longer runtimes because as we know larger capacity batteries work longer. Both units also include an integrated controller on a separate cord to power on/off the unit and to select between its three speeds.
